Services

Here at the Village we support a variety of children with an age range of 3-20yrs old. The Village full time students receive 1:1 support in specialist teaching and therapy, if required after school support and speech and language therapy.  We also collaborate and support students in mainstream schools; this enables us to work closely with the teachers and teaching assistants in providing the appropriate support and intervention.

Each individual student follows an individualised programme designed to their specific needs.  We set SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely) targets to allow the progress of the student to be recorded and monitored.  These targets are incorporated into the student’s IEP (individual education plan) to allow incorporation and reinforcement in the classroom and home environments.

Speech and Language

At the Village we assess children and young adults with suspected speech, language and communication difficulties. Referrals are welcomed from schools and parents alike. The assessment may include formal and informal assessment procedures, observation and a full case history as stated in the clinical guidelines set out by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT, UK, 2005) and the professional standards document (Communicating Quality 3, RCSLT, UK, 2006) .

Depending on the need this may be part of a multi disciplinary team approach which can include occupational therapy, literacy specialists and educational psychologists.  Following the assessment we will meet with the parents and if possible the school to discuss appropriate support that can be put in place.

Specialist Literacy Programmes

The specialised literacy programmes are designed for students who are primarily diagnosed with dyslexia and/or other related specific learning differences (SpLD’s). The programmes are well researched and provide a cumulative, multisensory and highly structured programme that is tailored to each individual’s strengths and weaknesses.

The programmes are taught by qualified and experienced specialists in the area of dyslexia and SpLD. We have specialists who have been trained in both the Orton Gillingham (OG) and Dyslexia Institute UK Programme (DILP).
